§ 2-55. Powers, duties.

  • The harbor commission shall serve in an advisory capacity to the board of county commissioners. The commission shall have the following powers and duties:

    (1)

    To investigate, study and assess the needs of the harbors of refuge located in the county and to make recommendations to the board of county commissioners on improvements needed in each harbor of refuge.

    (2)

    To investigate local, state and federal funding available for carrying out the improvements in the harbors of refuge in the county.

    (3)

    To prepare proposed rules and regulations concerning utilization of shoreline, dock and wharf space, and other improvements in the harbors of refuge, and to present these rules and regulations to the board of county commissioners for their review and adoption.

    (4)

    To study and recommend adoption of ordinances and other rules and regulations governing the use of harbors of refuge.

    (5)

    To look into and investigate the need for additional harbors of refuge in all areas of the county.

    (6)

    To generally advise the board of county commissioners concerning proper planning and regulation of harbors of refuge in the county.
