§ 11-28. Report of certain wounds.

  • (a)

    Any physician, nurse or other medical personnel who has reasonable cause to suspect that any person being seen for medical diagnosis or treatment has sustained an injury, gunshot wound, laceration or any other injury which apparently has been caused by a gun, knife or other deadly weapons shall report such facts to the county sheriff's department or the police department of any municipal corporation of the county.

    (b)

    Anyone who makes a report, pursuant to this section or who testifies in any judicial proceedings resulting from the report, shall be immune from any civil or criminal liability that might otherwise be incurred or imposed for complying with the requirements of this section, unless such person acted in bad faith or with malicious purpose.

    (c)

    Any person who knowingly and willfully violates the provisions of this section by failing to report as required herein shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be punished as provided by section 1-6 of this Code.
