§ 10-79. Location of junkyards.

  • No junkyard shall be established, operated or maintained, any portion of which is within 300 feet of the nearest edge of the right-of-way of any public road, public street or public highway, except the following:

    (1)

    Those which are screened by natural objects, plantings, fences or other appropriate means so as not to be visible from the main-traveled way of the public street, road or highway at any season of the year.

    (2)

    Those located within areas which are zoned for industrial use under the county zoning ordinance for which zoning classification in which the junkyard is located expressly allows or permits the junkyard use. Provided, that the junkyard shall be required to comply fully with all the requirements of the county zoning ordinance to include any screening or buffer requirements.

    (3)

    Those junkyards which are not visible from the main-traveled way of a public road, public street or public highway at any season of the year.

    (4)

    Those junkyards located on a highway or road within either the interstate system or primary system of the state department of transportation as defined and regulated in G.S. 136-141 et seq.
