§ 1. Purpose.
Carteret County does hereby find and declare that an airport hazard endangers the lives and property of users of the Airport and of occupants of land in the vicinity of the Beaufort-Morehead City Airport, and also, if of the obstruction type, in effect reduces the size of the area available for the landing, taking off and maneuvering of aircraft, thus tending to destroy or impair the utility of the Airport and the public investment therein, and is therefore not in the interest of the public health, public safety or general welfare.
These Regulations are established to contribute to the safe operation of the Michael J. Smith Airport, to facilitate compatible development around the Airport and to control and minimize adverse impacts on Airport operations by regulating the height and location of structures and equipment within the approaches to the Airport. It is the intent of this Appendix to encourage land use patterns which are consistent with Airport operations and to prohibit the location and construction of structures, equipment and apparati which constitute a safety hazard to Airport users.
